Want Kind, Respectful Children? It Starts With This...

The Savvy Mompreneur has the wonderful task of balancing many different roles - mom, entrepreneur, wife, friend, leader, mentor...and the list goes on.  Juggling a busy work schedule, along with caring for a family, can be challenging and many times our priorities are incorrectly shifted.

There are times (sometimes too frequently to admit) when "interruptions" from our greatest little fans cause us to act impatiently and at times too harshly.  We forget that the purpose of us working is to show love and to provide for our children, and instead we miss the opportunity to teach them self-control by our example.

A lesson that I am learning is that as mothers (and fathers too), we are the teachers and our children the students.  Our tone of voice, our actions, our spirit are copied by our little ones.  Children imitate those closest to them.  If we are kind and polite at home, while still firm and decided when needed, we will see the same traits exhibited in our children.  Our kindly disposition, our self-control and the courtesy our children see in us will be daily lessons to them.  We should always model before our children the example we wish to be imitated.

So how do we model the right example?  By being careful not to be rude to our children.  While we should still require obedience, we should be careful not to allow ourselves to speak carelessly to them.  We should aim to help them gently and tenderly.  To speak kindly to our children.  Our growing boys and girls feel very sensitive, and by roughness we may mar their whole life.

Is this easy to do?  Not always.  What can help us as moms is to seek to be calm and unhurried.  Plan ahead so that you don't have to rush around to get things done.  Take time out for prayer, meditation, inspirational reading, exercise, or whatever calms you.  If you are inclined towards prayer, here is one that is a favorite: Lord, please take control of my heart and conscience, and preside over my words and actions.

Find your way to start your day off positively and you'll be in a better mood for your children and clients.

I hope this post has helped to encourage and challenge you in some way.  I would love to hear from you!  Leave a comment below and don’t forget to spread the love by sharing this post on Facebook and Twitter!  Thank you and I appreciate you!!!
