Why Starting a Home Business in December Can Be a Great Payoff

If you've been thinking about starting your own home business, but have been planning to add it to your list of New Year's resolutions, then think again. Starting a home based business in December can allow you to write-off appropriate business start-up expenses for the 2010 tax year, and can allow you to jump start your goals for 2011.

Also, January has been said to be one of the best months to gain customers or recruit new team members for many home businesses.  Starting your home business in December will allow you to train and get up to speed on your business in order to capitalize on the masses of people looking for new opportunities or products in January.

So, are you ready to fire your boss and become an entrepreneur? Well, before you pack your desk and say farewell to your co-workers, make sure your new business venture aligns with these four tests of a successful home business:

1. It's flexible. Your ideal business should allow you to set your own hours, work on your own terms, spend time with your family, and truly be your own boss. But, it should also provide you with the support and training you need to be successful.

2. It's proven. There are many work-from-home scams out there, so you want to take steps to find a credible, reputable company. The company should have created a respected brand and should be well established. In addition, they should offer a proven, step-by-step marketing blueprint that allows for easy duplication and fast home business success.

3. It's fulfilling. You want to love what you do, so find a company that will allow you to utilize your strengths and fulfill your dreams.

4. It's a good investment. Most home based businesses require start-up costs. Look for a company whose credibility, products, and services are worth your investment and provides you with the marketing tools you need to be successful fast.

  1. I agree. And that's what two mompreneurs from Modesto, CA did. They launched their home-based business (Modesto's FindandgoSeek) on Dec. 1st 2010. FindandGoSeek is a web-based business that licenses its brand and software to become an insider's guide to kid-friendly fun and events in a community. You can learn more about their story at http://www.findandgoseek.net/news.
